WE WERE DISCUSSING THE CINEMA INDUSTRY AND CANDY AND THE TOGETHER BAR --- I HAD A LOT OF FRIENDS WHO WERE GAY BOTH MEN AND WOMEN ----------- JUST FRIENDS THOUGH -- THINKING OF THE LITTLE ROSENEATH AS WELL, AND THAT STUPID PLACE UP THE STREET WITH ALL THOSE HO-HO-HO-HO'S, BUT I DID TAKE A GOOD MANY FRIENDS OFF THE STREETS -- I EVEN WENT DOWN TO BOK STREET TO FETCH THEM AS WELL.................THINKING ABOUT BILLY AND THE FLAT IN CAROLINE COURT OR SOME SUCH THING.......................................................................................
I HAD A LOT OF FRIENDS THAT BECAME POLICE OFFICERS INSTEAD -- WANDERING DOWN NEAR THE NURSES HOME AND TO FRIENDS THAT LIVED IN THAT ROAD AS YOU CAME IN DOWN NEAR THE BRAAMFONTEIN AREA GOING DOWN TOWARDS THE CIVIC ----------------------THINKING OF THE BROWNSTONE -- YELLOWSTONE BLOCK OF FLATS -- NEAR THE GENERAL HOSPITAL -- AND THE FRIENDS WHO HAD ENDED UP IN THERE AS WELL -- THINKING OF THE HOSPITAL AND INGRID AND THE FLATS DOWN NEAR TUDHOPE STREET -- ABOVE THE WATERFALL WHERE OTHER FRIENDS LIVED....
I OFTEN WENT AND ATE AT THE HOSPITAL CANTEEN -- AND THAT WAS ABOUT THE TIME I WAS A TEEN AND HUNG AROUND WITH INGRID -- AND HER FAMILY -- HER MOTHER WAS A NURSE AND MY MOM KNEW HER AS WELL.....THE GENERAL HOSPITAL -- WE USED TO GO AND EAT THERE A LOT -- THINKING OF THE HALLS A LOT LATELY --- THINKING OF DEE ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THINKING OF THE HALLS AND DENNIS POULTON AND THE BIKE SHOP DOWN AT THE BOTTOM OF TOWN THE ROCK COLLECTING AS WELL..................................................
I USED TO GO AND SEE THEM THE POULTONS A LOT THEN -- AND KNEW THE HALLS FAIRLY WELL -- SO I SPENT QUITE A LOT OF TIME WITH THEM......................................
IT WAS BEFORE THE NIGHT WHEN EVERYTHING WENT WRONG AND == WE WENT OUT ONE NIGHT AND INGRID NEARLY ENDED UP DEAD IN THE ROAD -- IT WAS A LONGTIME AGO IN OBSERVATORY................................................................................
I REMEMBER THINKING OF THEM AND WORRYING ABOUT HER -- BUT SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL AND SHE WOULD HAVE DONE WELL -- I WAS SURE ABOUT THAT AS WELL............................................................................................................................
THIS WAS THE TIME OF THE ENCOUNTER WITH THE RED HAIRED BOY THAT JUMPED ON ME IN THE FLAT AFTER COMING HOME FROM A PARTY AND THOUGHT I WAS HIS GIRLFRIEND BECAUSE I WAS SLEEPING IN HIS BED AT HIS FLAT IN HILLBROW -- I HAD SOMETHING TO DRINK THAT NIGHT -- AND WOKE UP AND HE WAS ON TOP OF ME -- I REMEMBER SCREAMING AND THEN THE POLICE OFFICER FROM NEXT DOOR HAULING HIM OFF ME -- AND ALMOST HITTING HIM -- BUT THEN THE MUM CAME RUNNING IN AND IT WAS A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING....I HAD MANY FRIENDS WHO LIVED IN DIVES IN HILLBROW IN THOSE DAYS IN SQUALOR AND WITH DRUG PROBLEMS ALTHOUGH I NEVER DID ANY OF THAT -- THERE WERE FLATS ALONG THE SIDE OF THE STREET JUST OUT OF THE CHECKERS TO THE SIDE -- THE STREET WHERE THE CREST HOTEL WAS -- I USED TO GO TO THE CREST A LOT AND TO CLOUD NINE AS A TEEN AS WELL.................................THE NAPOLEON -- THERE WAS NOT A CLUB THAT I WAS AT THAT WAS NOT BUST BY THE SAPS AND THAT TIME I ALWAYS GOT A LIFT HOME INSTEAD ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
NO MATTER WHERE I WENT THERE WERE ALWAYS POLICE OFFICERS THERE -- THE
COPACOBANA -- THE STRIP JOINT FOR MEN AS WELL, ALL OF THE CLUBS WERE BUST AT ONE STAGE OR ANOTHER -- AND I WAS ALWAYS TAKEN HOME BY A POLICE OFFICER WHO ESCORTED ME TO MY DOOR AS THEY ALL KNEW ME AS I HAD WORKED IN THE CINEMA INDUSTRY IN HILLBROW -- I WORKED WITH GEOFF GALVIN AND FOR WALLY SCOTT AT THE TIME...........................................................THERE WERE OTHER PEOPLE WHO WORKED THERE AS WELL....AND THERE WERE USHERS AND PROJECTIONISTS AS WELL......................................................THE NU METRO WAS QUITE A BUSTLING LITTLE INDUSTRY IN THOSE DAYS AS WELL................................................................
I WORKED FOR BEDFORDVIEW METRO FOR THE BERKS FAMILY -- AND PEARL AND THIS WAS THE TIME THAT STEVE AND WHITEY WERE ON THE SCENE BEFORE THEY TOOK OFF AND JOINED THE SAPS AS WELL...................................................................IT WAS A HOSPITAL TRIP TO THE HELEN JOSEPH HOSPITAL TO SEE WHITEY AND THEN -- OFF AND A LIFT FROM STEPHEN AND THEN -- HE WENT INTO THE POLICE FORCE AND I DID NOT SEE HIM FOR YEARS AND YEARS ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I HAD ALSO WORKED FOR MRS CAINE IN THOSE YEARS AT THE SHOE SHOP IN HILLBROW AND AT THE CINEMA -- KINEKOR AT NIGHT FOR PIETER GREYLING AND TUBBY NEWSOMES --- THEN DOWN AT OTHER THEATRES ALL OVER THE SHOW -- THE CNA -- THE 7 ARTS IN THE CAPE --------------------------------------------------------------------------
WORKING WITH MIKE AT THE METRO AND THEN HE WENT ONTO DO SOMETHING ELSE AS WELL...........................................................................................................THINKING OF HIS FAMILY AS WELL -- ALBIE VAN HEERDEN -- AND ALSO OTHERS IN THE CINEMA INDUSTRY........................................................................................................
HEADING TOWARDS THE BLOCK WHERE I HAD LIVED -- KINGS RANSOM -- WHEN I WAS A CHILD AND MY MUM KNEW THE MAN WITH THE POLICE HAT -- WHO I LOVED...I WAS JUST A LITTLE GIRL THEN......................................................................
WONDERING HOW STEPHEN WAS -- AND THAT IS BEFORE HE TOOK OFF DOWN THE ROAD AND JOINED THE SAPS....................................................................................DID STEPHENS NAME COME UP WITH REGARD TO THE THEATRE INDUSTRY...I DON'T THINK SO I JUST WORKED THERE AT THE TIME INSTEAD.........................................................................
THINKING ABOUT THE TIME I WORKED WITH GEOFF GALVIN AND I HAD HEARD HE WAS ILL THESE DAYS AS WELL...THINKING ABOUT THE FLAT IN THAT AWFUL LITTLE ROAD -- TEDDY HAD MOVED US THERE AS WELL........................................................
