- 'A few honest cops'

A man who was due to appear in court on a charge of theft of a motor vehicle, was arrested at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday for attempting to bribe a police officer.
The man is alleged to have approached a senior police officer who was walking around the court building, and asked the officer if he could "make his police docket disappear".
Playing along with the man, the officer asked him how much he was willing to pay; to which the man promptly pulled out R1 900 from his pocket and shoved it into the policeman's hand.
| 'Well, at least it's good to know that we still have a few honest cops around' |
Curious onlookers watched as the policeman hauled the bewildered looking man out of the court building and into an awaiting police vehicle.
Upon hearing the story, those at court simply smiled and said: "Well, at least it's good to know that we still have a few honest cops around!"

Victims of xenophobic violence have been relocated from the Rabie Ridge Police Station to the BDSA Camp in Midrand.
Sixty-nine tents have been erected on a totally secure piece of land that has been surrounded by barbed wire. Water tanks, toilets and even street lamps have been provided within a very short period of time.
Approximately 350 people, of whom 81 are children (17 infants) were transported in buses to their temporary homes. All with heavy hearts, as the future looks bleak and uncertain in many cases.
Most just want to go back to the land of their birth. Malawian born, Charles Kaphamtengo, who has lived in South Africa for the past six months, told us: "If I stay here I will lose my life. It is better that I go back to my homeland."
"Life will be very difficult as we are returning with nothing. All of our property is gone. It has been taken by our neighbours."
ON CAMERA: Charles Kaphamtengo gives an insight to ’camp life’ so far.
The majority have nothing but the clothes on their backs and are relying heavily on the kindness of donations from the local Methodist Church, The Red Cross and the Disaster Management Fund.
One female camp resident, born in Mpumalanga, who preferred to remain anonymous said: "We are living okay here. We are eating properly. We just need more water so that we can wash our bodies." She has been advised that she can only stay at the camp for one month. If she had the means, she would return home to Bushback Ridge immediately.
A fully equipped mobile medical clinic will remain at the camp whilst it is in existance.
Transport is also being arranged for children who need to attend school.
Concerned local residents have been assisting with the camp set up. They have been assured by Government, that it will not grow any larger than what it currently is.
The camp is just three days old. There is plenty of work to still be done to accommodate everyone comfortably. Should you wish to provide some assistance in the way of food or clothing donations to the DBSA Camp in Midrand, please contact Marnette Sutherland on 082 786 3385. She will ensure that your contributions are distributed in the most effective manner.
